Author Signing - Barbara Lockhart

  • The Greyhound - An Indie bookstore 9 South Main Street Berlin, MD 21811 USA (map)

Award winning author, Barbara Lockhart uses the setting of the Eastern Shore of Maryland for her two novels, Requiem for a Summer Cottage, and Elizabeth’s Field, as well as in her collection of short stories, The Night is Young.

With lyrical prose, she captures the flavor of the land and the people, ordinary folk living in small towns and on farms in both the present era and in pre-Civil War history. Her work has been recognized locally and nationally.

Her children’s books celebrate Shore life in such titles as Rambling Raft (on the Choptank River), Once a Pony Time (at Chincoteague), Mosey’s Field (our corn harvest), and Will’s Tractor, (a champion fixer-upper). A kindergarten teacher for 25 years, Lockhart’s interest in children’s literature began with her first publication, Read to me, Talk with me, a manual which was used nationwide to encourage parents to read to their children.

Through workshops, lectures, readings, and book discussion groups, Lockhart’s interest has been to explore Shore life and history, while recognizing and honoring the humanity that links us all.
